My daughter and I have an 8 hour layover in London on our way from Minnesota to South Africa and, by the sheerest good luck, its on the last day that Buckingham Palace state rooms will be open to the public, sunday, Oct 7. Our flight comes into Heathrow about 12:00 noon and we have tickets for the 2:30 tour of the palace.’
What is the fastest way to get to London? Does Heathrow have a left luggage place where we could check our carryon bags for the afternoon so we don’t have to schlep them with us?

Dear Chris – the fastest way into London is on the Heathrow Express to Paddington, but that doesn’t really put you in the right part of town for Buckingham Palace (and it’s expensive); I would take the tube ie subway (which is slower but not by much) to Green Park then walk to Buckingham Palace across the park itself. See http://www.tfl.gov.uk for subway and transport details. I’m not sure about left luggage at Heathrow, it depends which terminal you arrive into and fly out from – I would google their website, although I think you’ll waste time especially if you are flying in and out of different terminals which are generally not easily linked. I’d just try and pack minimally and carry your stuff with you. Hope you have fun.
